Learning Journals

When your child enrols with us, we will provide you with a large scrapbook which will become your child’s learning journal.  We will use this journal to record learning stories / observations and collect artwork. We encourage you to add to your child’s book regularly and we love to discuss your child’s learning progressions with you

Parent Participation

We really value parent participation and support. If you are able to give 10 minutes of your time at morning drop off or before afternoon pick up to help with some small tasks around preschool, please let a staff member know and we will show you the task and what to do.

We love our parents to get involved in our language weeks. We love to celebrate all language weeks and would love parents to come in and help share their culture and language with our children at preschool for a richer learning experience.

Literacy

Literacy activities are woven into our curriculum daily.  Activities such as writing lists, recognising letters and names for objects and of course their own names; writing their names; learning to track from left to right; matching letters, sounds and their meanings; choosing to ‘read’ and ‘re read’ books by looking at picture cues and matching them to letters and words; learning the various parts of a book.

School Readiness

When your child turns four, you may like them to join our writing diary programme.

You will also need to speak to a staff member about access to our workshop with one of our teachers to help you fully understand our programme.

Mathematics

In the same natural, flowing way we embed mathematical knowledge into our curriculum. We include things such as counting 1- 20 – both forwards and backwards, matching, measuring, comparisons, classifying, making sets, weighing. Concepts such positioning – under, over, behind, through around, near, far are taught.  We learn about time such as now and then and learn to predict what will happen next as a part of the rhythm of our day.

Outside Play

Outdoor play is essential for children’s growth and development. In our preschool setting, we view the outdoor environment as a rich and meaningful learning space that extends our tamariki’s thinking, curiosity, and wellbeing. Through exploration, movement, and connection with the natural world, children are supported to develop their physical skills, social competence, creativity, and confidence. Our outdoor environment provides opportunities for risk-taking, problem-solving, and collaborative play, taking learning to another level and fostering a deep sense of belonging and respect for the world around them.
